How long has the ORAD been in business?
The Academy was founded in 1975.
Is there a Registration Fee?
No. The Oak Ridge Academy of Dance does not require a registration fee.
How do I Register?
Registration is taken over the phone, online, and at the Academy during office hours of operation.
How is tuition payable?
The ORAD accepts personal checks, cash and credit card. Tuition is paid on a monthly, semi or full year basis.
Does Acceptance into the ORAD require a signed contract for the entire year?
Yes. There is an individual payment plan as specified through the office, which is signed by the person responsible for fees.
Is there a Dress Code?
Yes. The Academy has set rules for dance attire. Color is a personal preference but each dance subject has specific dancewear needed for that individual course.
Does the ORAD present annual recitals?
Yes. The ORAD presents four annual productions each season. The ‘Holiday Spectacular’ is performed in December. The ORAD Annual Recitals and Concert are performed in early June.
Are private lessons available?
Yes. There are private lessons available. Our professional staff is trained in all skills and genres of dance. All private lessons will be contingent upon the availability of the dance professional and the availability of studio space. All private lessons will need to be scheduled with the office staff.
Are travel opportunities for competition available?
Yes. The Academy has specialized programs as described in detail under Specialized Programs. There are two levels of competition teams. Intermediate Level competes at regional competitions in the nearby area, Knoxville, Nashville, Chattanooga or Atlanta. The Advanced Level competes at the same regional as the Intermediate Level but they also travel to national competitions, traveling to Orlando, FL for the NDTC National Competition thru UDA Varsity.
Does the ORAD attend Dance Conventions?
The students at the ORAD have the opportunity to attend several dance conventions each season. The ORAD attends Jump Dance Convention in Atlanta, GA and 24Seven in Knoxville, TN annually. Attendance is by individual preference.
