The ORAD is an all-inclusive dance studio which has programs for every age group and level. The Academy teaches students of all ages the art and discipline of dance encompassing the delicate balance of enjoyment and discipline.

Our History

The Oak Ridge Academy of Dance was founded in 1975 under the direction of Tish Hartman and Ruth Scheitlin with staff members, Pam Reedy, Sandra Mayfield, Toni Ferguson and Linda Cross. In the early years, the Academy was housed in a historic building which was once a movie theater, built during the 1940’s for the individuals who worked and lived in Oak Ridge during the reign of the ‘Secret City’ where all entrances and exits to the city were gated and policed. In 1987, that building burned down, losing all ORAD records, pictures and videos of the past 12 years. With swift perseverance and drive Director, Pam Reedy, found an alternative building to house the ORAD and without missing a lesson, continued to keep the business open that season. In 1988 the new building was built and all the dancers were able to move back in and enjoy brand new facilities with classrooms with state-of-the-art floating floors, which are still being used today.
